PEACEBUILDING THROUGH SPORTS

BIKORA Cup Burundi 2026

OLIFE brought together young refugees in Burundi through football to create a safe and practical space for dialogue about the challenges facing refugee communities.

The initiative combined sport with training and awareness on resilience, self-reliance and the importance of creating livelihood opportunities. This became especially important as major reductions in humanitarian assistance placed additional pressure on refugee families, contributing to food insecurity and increasingly difficult living conditions in the camps.

Through the tournament, young people were encouraged not only to compete, but also to connect, exchange ideas, build confidence and explore ways of creating work and opportunity. Twenty-eight teams participated, bringing together refugee youth around unity, talent, peace and a shared future.

Football became more than a game — it became a platform for dialogue, motivation, unity and hope.
